This river was used for generations by the First Nations people for a variety of purposes, such as travel through the mountains, and is named for the reeds that grew along the river's banks, which they used to make bows.

  • Sulphur Mountain - Named in 1916 for the sulphur hot springs on its lower slopes, this mountain has been at the centre of much of Banff's history. Home to the Cave and Basin National Historic Site, the Banff Upper Hot Springs, the Banff Gondola, and the Sulphur Mountain Cosmic Ray Station National Historic Site, this mountain sees millions of visitors per year - rain, snow, or shine!
